An African Child
In the land of the rising sun Lies a child, his life just begun But fate has dealt him a cruel hand In a country where poverty is grand
He wakes up each day to a world of woe Hunger and thirst, he must learn to stow No toys to play with, no books to read His childhood is filled with endless need
His parents work hard, but earn so little Their dreams for him, a mere spindle Education is a luxury they can't afford Leaving him trapped, in a life unexplored
He watches as others pass him by Wishing he too could reach for the sky But his wings are clipped, he can't take flight The cycle of poverty, a constant plight
As he grows, his dreams wither and die Replaced with the harsh reality of life He knows he'll never reach for the stars Trapped in a life, behind prison bars
But he holds on to hope, a glimmer of light In a world that's dark, and filled with fright Someday, he tells himself, he'll break free From the chains that bind, and be all he can be
